Winning Sustainable, Affordable Flood Insurance for America
When legislation was signed into law that sent flood insurance premiums skyrocketing for homes across America, Caitlin Berni, while serving at GNO, Inc. launched and directed the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance (CSFI). CSFI grew to represent over 300 organizations in 35 states and was a driving force behind the passage of the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act. CSFI has continued to drive discussion around the importance of affordable, sustainable flood insurance, increased mitigation opportunities and improved communication of flood risk, and has been integral in negotiations surrounding reauthorization of the NFIP.
The efforts and results of CSFI were featured in local and national media, including Bloomberg, Politico, NPR’s On Point, and New Orleans’ The Advocate and NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune. Both GNO, Inc.’s President and CEO, Michael Hecht and Caitlin have testified before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee and the House Financial Services Committee on behalf of CSFI. Caitlin continues to work on the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance in her work at Berni Consulting.
